LOCAL YOUTH
CLUB AWARDED A report taken from the Medway Messenger dated August 23rd 2004. Local group, Cuxton Community Trust Youth Club, in Cuxton has been awarded £285 by the BT Community Champions award scheme. BT employees across the UK who are actively involved in community work during their free time are able to apply for funding for their associated group or organisation through the scheme. A panel of judges allocate grants to a cross section of groups who illustrated how the award would make a difference to their group and benefit their local community. Cuxton Community Trust Youth Club was among hundreds that entered Review Two of the scheme and impressed judges with how they would use their grant. The group plans to use their £285 award to buy additional sports equipment including new basketball hoops. Rachel Burren of Cuxton Community Trust Youth Club said, " At the moment we are unable to use the basketball court due to the existing hoops having to be removed because of excessive wear. This will give the youth club a welcome additional facility which the members are looking forward to using." BT's Martin Burley who applied
for the award on behalf of the group added: "I have been treasurer
of Cuxton Community Trust for nearly two years now. The youth club has
been running for eighteen months and has grown rapidly from 0 to over
120 members with over 60 attending each week. The addition of the basketball
facility will be a great boost to activities available to the members." |
