Cuxton
Community Centre
2005 Survey
Earlier this
year Cuxton Community Trust sent out a questionnaire to all houses in
the village. This was delivered with the noticeboard leaflets. We also
had the questionnaire available online for people to download if they
did not receive a copy.
From approximately 1100 houses in the village, we had 131 returned, which
equates to a 12% response.
We asked if
people were supportive of a community centre being built in the village,
47% supported the venture whilst 53% were against.
Of those who
supported the venture, the main uses for the centre were as follows:
Private Lettings
80%
Dental Surgery 77%
Small Group Use 66%
Sports Hall 62%
Well Women Clinic 61%
Youth Club 59%
Café 57%
Holiday Club 44%
Badminton 41%
Advice Centre 39%
Coffee Mornings 38%
Internet Café 33%
Advice Centre 30%
Drop in Centre 30%
.
We then asked
if they supported a swimming pool being built, 37% were in favour whilst
63% didn't want one in the village
We have taken
all the findings on board while investigating costs etc for a community
centre. We quickly realised that a swimming pool was not wanted by the
residents and would also not be viable with the amount of people who live
locally. We agreed that the swimming pools at Strood, Hoo and the Black
Lion were in driving distance and therefore we are going forward with
a community centre but on a much smaller scale and without a pool.
We are publishing
these findings, so that you know what is wanted or needed in the village
and that we are progressing with this project with our eyes open and with
the residents of the village in mind. We do not want to build a community
centre which will not be used by the community. We will have more public
meetings in the future and will keep you informed of proceedings.
